About Karen Cahn, Physical Therapist
I come to Body Kinetics a seasoned Physical Therapist with 20 + years experience. In addition to extensive expertise in sports rehab, orthopedic and neurological rehabilitation, I am the first certified Postural Restoration physical therapist in the state of California.
Studying and applying Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) principles has been a passion of hers over the past 5 years. Keren is trained to recognize patterns of imbalance in musculoskeletal and respiratory systems which underly weakness, torsion, instability and pain.
I was born in the SF bay area. My career in Physical Therapy began at the age of 16, working as a PT aide through a medical intern program. In this way I paid my way through college, making a straight course to graduate cum laud from University of Texas with a degree in Physical Therapy. I have been fortunate enough to enjoy a variety of experience in the field including: heading a interdisciplinary head injury/spinal cord team, chronic pain program, sports medicine, orthopedic and neurologically involved acute and outpatient. At one time I was a consulting therapist for a Hong Kong dance company and worked in rural health care with an Indian tribe in the high desert of Mexico. My family and I have recently returned to the SF bay area after living 5 years in Israel.
How we'll get results:
Learning and applying Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) principles has been a passion and a joy over the past 5 years. Keren is trained to recognize patterns of imbalance in musculoskeletal and respiratory systems which underly weakness, torsion, instability and pain.
Keren offers specific corrective exercises which address the primary contributors of postural imbalance, pain and movement dysfunction. The goal is to restore alignment, function and reciprocal movement, preventing injury.
For example: If you are a baseball player with shoulder pain, Keren will assess not only the joint and muscles of the shoulder girdle, but certainly the rib cage, breathing pattern, pelvic obliquity, core integration, while noting dominant vs non-dominant leg muscle imbalances. All of these influence the mechanics of the shoulder and the act of throwing as a repetitive motion.
She may perform one of several hands-on techniques, but will certainly give specific intentional exercises to address the underlying asymmetry which placed the shoulder is in a position of injury in the first place. All the while, she will give away knowledge and education so that you can better understand, care for and control your own body.
